ABOUT ESPCI PARIS & PSL MASTER PROGRAM IN ENGINEERING FOR HEALTH
ESPCI Paris – PSL (École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles de la Ville de Paris) is a generalist engineering school that has been training innovative, adaptable, and creative engineers since 1882. These engineers are equipped with a strong theoretical and experimental foundation and are aware of societal challenges. The school is part of a world-renowned research center in physics, chemistry, and biology (500 publications per year). It is known for its ability to translate fundamental research into breakthrough innovations (2 patents per month, 3 start-ups per year). With 6 Nobel Prizes, ESPCI hosts 400 engineering students, 530 researchers (including 250 PhD students and 100 postdocs) across 10 joint research units, and around 100 support staff.
ESPCI Paris is a member of Université Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL). It is the coordinating institution for the PSL Master program in Health Engineering (Science & Technology for Health), which will launch in September 2025. This program aims to train scientists, engineers, and healthcare professionals who will drive scientific and technological innovation in the health sector. The program is international and interdisciplinary, taught entirely in English, and designed for students from diverse academic backgrounds in science, engineering, and health. It is coordinated by a teaching team composed of faculty from various PSL institutions and will host 80–100 students annually across the first and second years (M1 and M2).
Contexte et mission :
The Junior Fellow will be employed by ESPCI Paris-PSL and will have a dual role in research and teaching.
Research:
The Junior Fellow will be affiliated with a PSL laboratory aligned with their research interests and will conduct research under the supervision of a host team member. Research will focus on topics related to biomedical engineering, biomaterials science and/or data science applied to health. Projects involving innovative technologies for health data acquisition (in vitro, in vivo, clinical), analysis, and exploitation are encouraged. Topics may include (but are not limited to):
• Design and assessment of theranostic and imaging technologies,
• Design and assessment of wearable or implantable biosensors,
• Design and assessment of in vitro materials or devices for screening and diagnostics,
• Analysis and medical use of data produced by these technologies. Candidates are invited to propose a research project and a potential host team from among the laboratories of ESPCI Paris-PSL, Chimie ParisTech-PSL, MINES Paris-PSL, EPHE-PSL, and ENS-PSL. The project may be original or support an existing initiative. Collaborative projects across multiple labs are welcome.
Teaching:
The Junior Fellow will contribute to the new PSL Master program in Health Engineering (ST4Health), delivering 64 hours/year of teaching in English and participating in course coordination. They will teach core concepts in material sciences, biomedical engineering, and/or data science applied to health for M1/M2 students. They will supervise biomedical engineering development projects and collaborate with PSL technical platform managers (Imaging, FabLab, WetLab, etc.). Depending on their expertise, they may also teach and supervise M2 student projects in the “Biomaterials & Engineering for Health” and “AI & Digital Health” tracks.
