Continue reading

IRMaGe : Development of cerebral perfusion imaging through arterial spin labeling

The measurement of cerebral blood flow (CBF) is a way to characterize microcirculation and tissue perfusion. Perfusion-related parameters are used in diagnosis and therapeutic follow-up in a large number of diseases (stroke, dementia, head injury, tumors for example). Several techniques exist to measure cerebral blood flow. The least invasive is arterial spin labeling (ASL), where arterial water is used as a tracer within an MRI sequence.     However, quantitative CBF mapping requires several acquisition and post-processing … Continue reading

CENIR : Optical diffuse imaging

Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS, also known as “optical diffuse imaging”) allows one to map on the subject’s scalp local changes in concentration of oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin, which indirectly reflect neuronal activation (so-called neurovascular coupling). Since fNIRS uses near-infrared light, hence low-energy harmless photons, experiments can be repeated with complete safety. This brain imaging modality is  easy to use, low cost, noninvasive and portable to the patient’s side. GFLI funding has allowed the CENIR to be equipped with an fNIRS … Continue reading

Vivoptic, the FLI’s preclinical optical imaging platform of Bordeaux

The Vivoptic platform is a component of the Platform for Biomedical Imaging, UMS 3767 CNRS / University of Bordeaux. It provides access to optical imaging equipment for small animals acquired mainly with France Life Imaging (FLI) funding for projects involving imaging of bioluminescence and fluorescence, from cellular scale to the whole animal. The range of optical imaging modalities available to users of this platform is illustrated in Mazzocco et al, Scientific Report 2016. This study shows the potential of … Continue reading

Spectral Photon Counting CT, CERMEP, Lyon

Spectral Photon Counting CT European Project: SPCCT, a project that heralds a new generation of scanners  enabling early diagnosis in oncology and cardiology.   Spectral Photon Counting CT is a new and promising imaging modality based on a new energy resolving detector technology. A 4 year collaborative European Project led by the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 was selected and granted (6.4 M€) under the “Horizon 2020” European Research and Innovation program. The SPCCT project using a unique Philips … Continue reading
